ALTA celebrates the reduction of taxes in Argentina
In November 2017, ALTA and IATA signed a MoU with the Ministry of Transport of Argentina with the aim of joining efforts for the development of air transport in benefit of the country, especially from the competitiveness in costs and the opening of the market.
Airport taxes have been one of the topics discussed in the meetings, as well as recommendations concerning the operation of fuel and ground handling.
In this sense, the recent announcement of the 56% reduction in taxes for short-range international flights is a very important achievement of the administration and a news of great impact for the industry, since this measure will further encourage the growth of intraregional traffic -especially between Argentine provinces and neighboring countries-, domestic traffic, the inclusion of new routes and the offer of more affordable tickets for passengers, among other benefits that will directly impact the economic and social development of the region.
Previously, flights over 300 Km were considered international. With this measure, they become flights from 1,000 Km. The measure, which will come into force as of May, will have a direct impact on 14 routes and will represent savings for more than 250,000 passengers. It is estimated that the measure will generate savings of USD $ 2.8 Million. (The tax is reduced from 20 USD/Pax to 8.84 USD/Pax).
We celebrate the efforts made by the government of Argentina to promote the value of aviation as an engine of the country’s economic and social development and, ALTA will remain at their disposal to continue working on recommendations and measures that encourage the growth of the industry and a increasingly relevance in the global air transport.
